Modern Apprentice Mandeep Singh has put his passion for net zero to practical use.

Mandeep Singh is looking towards a bright future, with his work in solar and heating projects making a big impact.
The former Renfrew High School pupil applied for a Modern Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation after doing an electrical course at West College Scotland.
Mandeep says, ‘Doing the Modern Apprenticeship has improved my confidence and communication skills – I feel much more comfortable talking to people at work or in college.’

During his apprenticeship with FES Group, Mandeep’s been working on solar farms and heating projects at sites across Scotland.
His contribution to solar farm installation has helped reduce CO2 emissions by more than 1,000 tonnes a year. He’s also worked on low-carbon projects to provide energy-efficient water supply.
Mandeep uses his extensive electrical knowledge – and skills such as communication and planning – to develop solutions to challenges on site.
Mandeep says, ‘A Modern Apprenticeship is the best of both worlds. The college learning is really in-depth and then you go out on site and put your learning into practice.’

The future
Mandeep’s dedication and skills in net zero technologies haven’t just supported his employer and helped cut CO2. They also helped him win Supporting Net Zero Apprentice of the Year at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards!
Mandeep said, ‘My apprenticeship helped me decide my future by working more with solar, EV charging and tackling climate change.’
