What's Veterinary Nursing like?

This Modern Apprenticeship supports you to work in a veterinary environment, such as a surgery, with colleagues who deliver a wide range of care and treatment.

What's the qualification?

SCQF Level 7

You'll gain a Modern Apprenticeship in Veterinary Nursing at SCQF Level 7. 

Your qualification includes:

  • Veterinary Nursing – Small Animal at SCQF Level 7

  • Veterinary Nursing – Equine at SCQF Level 7

You must also achieve one enhancement qualification at SCQF Level 6.

What will I learn?

As part of this apprenticeship, you'll achieve 5 different workplace core skills at SCQF Level 6.

Where could it take me?

When you complete this apprenticeship, you'll become a Registered Veterinary Nurse. This gives you a range of options.

Further study: You could apply for a relevant course at college or university. This includes Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), undergraduate degrees or Emergency and Critical Care Certificates.

Straight to work: Use your qualifications and find a job in the sector, such as:

  • advanced veterinary nursing practitioner

  • practice manager

  • emergency and critical care veterinary nursing

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this framework. It can be useful, though, to have relevant Standard Grades, National 4s or 5s or Highers in relevant subjects such as biology, chemistry or English.

How does it work?

You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider. 

How long will it take?

This Modern Apprenticeship will take 12 to 24 months to complete.
