What's Healthcare Support like?

You'll gain a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 or Level 7.

What will I learn?
During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:
Promote effective communication in a healthcare environment
Maintain health, safety and security practices within a health setting
Develop your practice through reflection
Provide information on endoscopic procedures to individuals
Prepare individuals for endoscopic procedures
Reprocess endoscopic equipment
Measure and record patient’s body fluid output
Assist and support in the monitoring of patients within the perioperative environment
Prepare and dress for scrubbed clinical roles
You will develop the following core skills:
Team work
Numeracy
Problem-solving
Communication
Time management
These transferrable skills are useful for working in other jobs such as administration and mental health support.
Where could it take me?
This Modern Apprenticeship gives you a variety of options. Carry on your studies with a healthcare support degree or go into full-time work.
Further education: Continue to improve your medical knowledge by studying for a healthcare bachelor’s degree. Your experience will support your university application.
Straight to work: Use your qualifications and find a job in the healthcare support industry. After completing the apprenticeship, you could move onto jobs like:

Entry requirements
There are no set requirements for the apprenticeship. But it is useful to have an interest in the healthcare support field.
How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.
How long will it take?
This Modern Apprenticeship will take 12 to 24 months to complete.
