Software Development at SCQF Level 6
You'll also develop and apply practice and principles within your chosen specialist pathway.
You'll gain a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6.

Your qualification includes, depending on your chosen pathway:
Digital Technology: Cyber Security at SCQF Level 6
Digital Technology: Data Analytics at SCQF Level 6
Digital Technology: Infrastructure at SCQF Level 6
Digital Technology: IT Support at SCQF Level 6
Digital Technology: Software Development at SCQF Level 6
You’ll be expected to achieve a range of learning outcomes by the end of your apprenticeship, depending on the pathway you choose. You could, for example:
design appropriate software solutions
plan, design, execute and report on software tests
identify and investigate suspect activities
detect and deal with cyber and data security incidents
prepare data for analysis
manage data assets through secure use and storage of data
use project management tools to plan, organise and monitor the progress of activities
Straight to work: When you complete this apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6, you achieve a competence-based qualification. This puts you in a strong position to apply for jobs in the industry.
Technical Apprenticeship: You could move on to the Digital Technology Technical Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 8.
Graduate Apprenticeships: You could apply for a Graduate Apprenticeship in a related area, such as:
Further education: After completing this apprenticeship and earning a diploma, you can apply for further or higher education courses.
This apprenticeship also helps you develop meta-skills. These help to support high performance, resilience, self-awareness and continuous learning.
Entry requirements
The recommended entry requirements for this apprenticeship are:
You must be the statutory school leaving age for Scotland.
You should be able to demonstrate you have the numeracy skills to meet the learning outcomes.
However, an employer can also consider your existing workplace skills and experience. If you’re changing careers or upskilling, an employer may take this into account. This means employers can help open up the opportunities to more potential applicants.
How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.
How long will it take?
We expect this apprenticeship to take 12 to 24 months to complete.
