What's Childhood Practice Technical like?

You will gain a Technical Apprenticeship in Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 9.

  • core units of an SVQ in Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 9

  • a range of optional units

During your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:   

  • provide a supportive environment for children 

  • work with young people and develop their confidence 

  • create lasting bonds with co-workers 

  • provide support for families

  • carry out best childhood care practices  

This apprenticeship will help you develop core skills such as:   

  • time management

  • team-building

  • problem-solving 

  • communication 

These transferable skills can be used for other jobs such as early years practitioner and housing support.

Where could it take me?

This Technical Apprenticeship gives you a range of options. Continue your education with other qualifications or graduate to a management role in the childcare industry.   

Further study: You could continue your studies by studying for a relevant childcare degree at university. Your experience will support your application.   

Straight to work: Use your qualifications to find a senior position within the social care sector. Possible roles include:   

  • lead childcare practitioner

  • senior family support officer

  • senior social worker 

  • social care manager 

  • lead early years practitioner

How does it work?

You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider. 

How long will it take?

This Technical Apprenticeship will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
