Studying for an apprenticeship in active leisure, learning and wellbeing can give you the opportunity to change the way someone thinks about fitness. The leisure sector features a variety of jobs for people with a passion for fitness. Learn how to run your own classes as a sports coach. Help to look out for first time swimmers as a lifeguard. Manage your own team as a leisure supervisor.
The apprenticeship will give you the chance to develop different skills, such as coaching and managing people in an outdoor environment.

Your qualification includes:
Instructing exercise and fitness at SCQF Level 5
Sport and active leisure: Operational services at SCQF Level 5
Activity leadership at SCQF Level 5
Playwork at SCQF Level 6
Sports coaching at SCQF Level 6
Outdoor programmes (Outdoor recreation or outdoor education) at SCQF Level 6
Personal training at SCQF Level 6
Leisure management at SCQF Level 7
Playwork at SCQF Level 7
In the workplace, you’ll learn how to:
carry out best safety practices in a leisure environment
coach in a sports environment
develop and maintain working relationships
manage people in a leisure environment
In addition, you’ll learn the following core skills:
problem-solving
communication
time management
working with others
These transferable skills can be used for different jobs, such as playwork and coaching.
This Modern Apprenticeship gives you different options to pursue. You could study for a university degree in sports science or go into full-time work.
Further study: Continue your education by studying for a relevant HND or HNC in the leisure sector. Your experience will support your application for higher fields of study.
Straight to work: Make use of your qualifications and find a leisure-related job. With this apprenticeship, you could move onto the following jobs:

How does it work?
You’ll learn in a real-world environment and earn a wage. You’ll also study with a college or another learning provider.
How long will it take?
This Modern Apprenticeship will take between 12 and 24 months to complete.
