What's Hospitality like?
Hospitality is an exciting and flexible industry. It offers lots of opportunities in hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars and other venues. There's a wide range of careers and jobs available to anyone with the right attitude, including:
What's the qualification?
You'll gain a Foundation Apprenticeship in Hospitality at SCQF Level 4 or 5. That's the same level of learning as a National 4 or National 5.

What will I learn?
Your Skills for Work award will cover:
working in the professional kitchen
working front of house
working in the hospitality industry
events
You'll use the skills and knowledge you develop to design and deliver a project. You'll:
work closely with an employer
deliver you project to a real-life client
develop an understanding of the hospitality sector
Your Foundation Apprenticeship will also help you to develop meta-skills. These skills are valued by employers. Meta-skills include:
self-management
social intelligence
innovation
These meta-skills are necessary and desirable for working in a range of other related jobs.

Entry requirements
If you're staying on at school, you can apply for a Foundation Apprenticeship.
How does it work?
You'll do your Foundation Apprenticeship alongside your other school subjects. You'll work on projects with an employer and a learning provider, such as a college. It'll give you an industry-recognised qualification that's great for your CV.
How long will it take?
It should take 1 year. You could start in S3, S4, S5 or S6.
