An opportunity has arisen to join our client’s Machine shop as a CNC Machinist Modern Apprentice. This position is best suited to someone who strives in a challenging environment.

Main Purpose of Position:
To become a skilled machinist, to set and operate with the ability to part program on the machine on a day/night shift pattern.

As an apprentice you will work towards being able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of:

- Working-holding methods
- Tool selection criteria
- Cutting tool parameters
- Manual machining techniques
- Setting and operating a range of CNC machine tools
- Shop floor computer systems
- Quality principles
- Inspection techniques

What will I learn?

Specific Responsibilities:

To set and operate machines in a safe manner with regard to themselves and others, complying with the Health and Safety at Work Act.

To produce components to the Company standard in the most efficient and cost efficient manner.

To be familiar with all systems and procedures of their job.

To ensure that information is transferred between shifts and team members as required. If problems occur ensure the relevant people are kept informed e.g. Shift Leader, Production Engineer, Scheduler & Maintenance.

To be committed to continuous improvement and suggest improvements regarding methods, processes and tooling.

To highlight problems as soon as they occur to the shift leader and keep the working area clean and tidy.

What qualification or qualities are required?

Skills and Qualifications:

Ideally you will have achieved a National 5 or equivalent in English, Maths and a Science subject.
Be able to demonstrate the ability to read, interpret and communicate technical information.
A Drivers Licence would be an advantage, however, it is not essential.

Required personal attributes:

Be able to project a positive enthusiastic attitude and take a flexible approach to their role.
Can demonstrate and produce consistent high quality work.
Shows pride and enthusiasm in their work. Provide visible support and a positive attitude to supervisors and work colleagues. Good attendance/time keeping. Flexibility in this position is a must depending on workload.

Rate of pay will depend on experience but exceeds National Minimum Wage requirements.
